Wacky Snacking Cake

one pan snacking cake

This is a one-pan, budget-friendly snacking cake recipe that's been in my family for decades. Directions on how to make it follow, and with no eggs or dairy, it couldn't be easier than this! Dump the ingredients in one pan, stir and bake.

Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 30 minutes
Total Time 40 minutes

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 3 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons white vinegar
  • 2/3 cup of vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 cups water

Instructions

unstirred wacky snacking cakeStir dry ingredients in an ungreased 9" square pan or a baking pan of similar size.

Make three equally spaced holes in the dry ingredients in the pan.

Pour vinegar in one hole, vegetable oil in another, and vanilla in the third space.

Gently pour two cups of water over top of everything, then stir well until all ingredients are well blended together,

Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes.

Notes

single serving of wacky snacking cakeCool and ice the top of the snacking cake if you like, or sprinkle the top with icing sugar.

I remove individual servings of the cake directly from the pan.
