Hosting a garage sale is an easy way to declutter your space and make a little extra cash while you’re at it. With the right planning, you can turn your “junk” into someone else’s treasure – and have fun doing it!

Garage Sale Checklist: The Ultimate Guide to a Hassle-Free, Money-Making Sale
Use this updated garage sale checklist to plan every detail from start to finish. Whether it’s your first sale or you’re a seasoned weekend seller, this guide will help you keep things organized, stress-free, and profitable.
2–3 Weeks Before the Sale: Prep Like a Pro

Start the Great Declutter
Go through every room and pull out items you no longer use. Remember: if it’s priced right, it can sell. Think books, kitchenware, old electronics, clothes, toys, furniture, tools—almost anything! In each room, sort your clutter into separate piles of “sell, donate, and keep.”
Price Smart
Aim to price most items at 25–35% of retail.
For clothing, stick to 5–15% of the original price.
Use easy-to-read price stickers or tags. Group smaller items in “2 for $1” or “Fill a bag for $5” deals
Pick the Perfect Date & Time
- Choose a Saturday or Sunday, early morning (8 AM–12 PM is prime time)
- Avoid holidays, big events, or bad weather forecasts
Get the Word Out:
Write a clear, upbeat ad with specific items that will attract buyers (e.g., “baby gear,” “vintage tools,” “designer clothes”). If you are comfortable with AI, ask for help writing the ad and be specific with details about the important items that you have for sale.
Advertise on:
